Montessorium: Intro to Letters App Reviews

struggling

I like the idea of this App but we are really struggling with the "tracing" part. If I cant do it (42 years old and awesome fine motor skills) how can I expect my three year old to manage? Somethings not quite right.

Great for letter sounds, although tracing letters needs larger screen

I believe this app works best on an iPad. My 5 year old had a hard time tracing the small letters on iTouch screen. Hearing the sound of the letters was great and she enjoyed recording her voice and hearing the letter sound played back. I appreciate any learning tool that fosters reading. Thank you for making a child-friendly app!

Good app

My 3 year old son has enjoyed using this app. The only improvement I noticed that was needed was on the tracing page. There should be button there that lets the child hear the letter they are tracing. It does automatically say it once but after that not possible. Other than that I would have given the app 5 stars.

My 3 year old loves this!

My 3 year old has been using the letter and number apps for over a year and Im impressed by the very slow visual pace the app allows. It takes a kind of patience for a child of this age to both enjoy and progressively learn from it continuously. Im very impressed! I just wish there was a simpler transition to their writing words app and a continuously slow learning into more addition and subtraction in the numbers app - but I dont see anyone else coming close.

Disappointed

I bought this app for my 5 year old brother and feel like I have wasted my money. There are no letter sounds when he traces the alphabet and as he is still learning the letter names, he is basically just tracing shapes and not learning anything. There are free apps that are way better than this one!

No retina version

Good app, however as of version 1.2 there is no retina display support.

Not so much

This is a poorly designed learning tool in my opinion. My main complaint is that it doesnt go alphabetically in the random letter selection...not so productive especially for children. Its also way overpriced.

Not worth the price

This App was too bland to hold the attention of either of my kids. For the price, I expected much more.

Outstanding resource

The iPad or iPhone is a high-tech chalkboard. With a good teacher or good parental guidance, any child can have a better chance of being prepared for school and for life. This app is an essential and extremely powerful tool for preparing your child for reading, speaking, and writing. This is one of the most useful and effective apps that we work with.

Good idea

The idea is nice, the kids love it, and especially the 5 years old is learning. Sometime arrows do not follow exactly the pen, maybe an improvement is needed. Overall is ok.

Good work

This is a good app, but it will be usefull to me when youll improve the italian language like in "intro to math"... Please add italian! However, good work, thanks

Sounds have no "uh"

I had high hopes for this app. However, as soon as I heard the letter sounds pronounced, I saw Id have to delete it. There are no letter sounds that end with "uh". Its not /buhand/, for band; its /b/ /a/ /n/ /d/. This is not an app I would use with my child at home or school to enhance reading. Shame, shame for not pronouncing the letter sounds correctly.

For Grandchildren

My grandchildren love everything that this team puts together. Intro to Letters is like an entrance into a whole new world! I cant wait to see what they come up with next. Intro to Letters is so beautiful... I really feel the quality of this app.

Highly Recommended!

I love this application as much as Intro to Math!

Good - wish it had cursive

The interface is as good as Intro to Math and it has a good set of activities for the sandpaper letters work. However, my childs school teaches with the cursive alphabet, so an option to use that would be much more helpful for me to reinforce the movement needed. That being said, my son seems more willing to spend a bit of time with the letters on my iPad than he is at school - could be a case of fewer options for work over the summer or that it just takes less time to put the work away when he is done - regardless it is a well done app that my son enjoys using.

No depth

I hope there is a major update soon because we were sorely disappointed in this program for the high price. The letter tracing part of the app might be one of the strongest elements, but there are other apps that make tracing a bit more fun. I love Montessori, but once youve taken the sandpaper out of the equation you have to replace it with some other engaging way to make tracing letters interesting. There are no other elements that take advantage of the ipads capabilities. Flash cards would do the same thing. I really want to find a way to continue Montessori teaching at home but Im afraid this isnt interesting enough to hold my sons attention for very long. This could be SOOOOO much better! Come on Montessorium, you are missing the point. Maria would have done it differently dont you think?

GREAT app for preschool-age kids

THIS is what learning apps on the iPad should be modeled after. A clear-spoken voice that gives instructions, an easy-to-use interface, engaging activities, and EXCELLENT methods for helping kids to recognize and write letters and eventually to read. I eagerly await more apps from this developer.

Worthy of the name of Montessori

We have been using iPad apps for letters and phonics for a while now. In my opinion, even when they hold my girls attention, they are too distracting; the focus is not on the letters or their sounds, but rather on the pictures and sounds related to the pictures (animal sounds, object sounds, etc. rather than letter sounds), in addition to the "game" itself. In the end, I found my girl did not remember anything except for the bells and whistles. This application is exceptional in its simplicity and its quiet focus on the letters and sounds. I think we underestimate our childrens interest in learning itself. We think we have to have heavy stimulation for them to stay focused, but I think that is not the case. The calm low voice and the pleasant colors help continue without getting overexcited and simply just touching random buttons. Plus, my girl especially liked the way she can record her voice and hear herself say the letter or sound.

Great app, but tracing should work even if outside the letter

This is a great app, simple but effective. The only thing needed is to let you trace even if youre outside the lines slightly. My 2 1/2 year old caught on right away but couldnt quite get started inside the lines, even though he got the motions right. Id give five stars then.

Best app!

This is the most wonderful app. My almost-four year old played with it for only 2 days and is already telling me all the letter names whenever she sees letters! Im an elementary school teacher and Im thrilled!!
